Newsletter June - July 2010
Thank You
A big THANK YOU to all members who have helped in recent weeks with the ‘Spirit of Tring’ event, the Pendley sports clubs bowls tournament and with the Club’s recruitment campaign. So far 25 new members have joined the Club with the prospect of even more. Special thanks are due to the Club’s coaches, Tom Webb and Geoff Barnett, and visiting coach Brian Mayes (North Watford) for the many hours spent with new and prospective members.
Welcome
A big WELCOME to all new members – we hope you enjoy the game of bowls and the activities of Tring Bowls Club. The etiquette of bowls, the Club’s practices and procedures and the need to acquire equipment probably seem a bit daunting at present – the following activities are designed to help.
Buddy scheme – many long standing members have volunteered to take new members under their wing in order to help them feel comfortable, encourage participation in matches and events and generally provide support. Contact details have been issued to ‘buddies’.
Sale of clothing and equipment – see details below.
Wanted
Surplus clothing and equipment. Long standing members are invited to donate unwanted or surplus items to the Club or make them available for sale. This is specifically aimed to help new members. Please take items to the Club by close of play on Monday 26 July. Depending on the response, a sale will take place on Friday 30 July. New members are encouraged to take advantage of this offer - most items will just require a donation to the Club but more expensive equipment such as sets of bowls might require a purchase from the member donor. See notice boards for details.
Bowls Competitions
National, County and District competitions are now approaching their final stages – we have a few bowlers still standing and wish them every success. Club competitions are well under way – still to come are the Cella Cup, particularly suitable for new members, and the Open Two Wood Singles. Look at notice boards for details.
Social Events
It is difficult to squeeze social events into the bowling calendar but towards the end of season and into autumn we hope to run a Fun Day (games on the green and in the Clubhouse with BBQ), Quiz Evening (test of knowledge or try your luck with bingo), Indoor games (darts, dominoes etc) and a ‘Bangers ’n Mash’ evening. Please check notice boards.
Reminders
Please support Club matches by putting your names on the nomination sheets.
Please shut the gates – there are too many instances of gates being left open or unlocked.
